The D4L Active Learning Workshop is a 4 stage process for curriculum design. It was initially designed as a way to introduce digital capabilities into the curriculum in a well-planned and supported way.
The D4L Active Learning Workshop draws on principles of Appreciative Inquiry and uses Jisc’s Viewpoint resources. Appreciative Inquiry is a positively focussed model for change management, designed around four stage: discover, dream, design, destiny (Kadi-Hanifi et al. 2014). Viewpoints are a set of resources, developed by a JISC Curriculum Design Project, to promote and enhance good curriculum design (Nicol 2012).
The workshop is drawn from a one year strategic project to investigate and develop the digital literacies of academic staff at University of Huddersfield. The particular focus has been to achieve high levels of confidence and skill for those academics who might be classified as the ‘late adopters’, those who are not usually the innovators or early adopters of technology (Rogers 2003).
